There is no need to be nervous when interviewing a plastic surgeon.
You are there to gather information and ask him what he or she can do for
you. If you do not completely understand,
ask more questions. You are paying them, therefore don't leave feeling
as though you got nothing from the visit. You can never ask too many
questions. Remember you are not obligated to do anything after the
interview. You are simply seeking information. Dr. Campbell knows
this and is very accommodating.
Make a list of questions prior to
consulting if possible.
Things to do during the interview:
What are the surgeons qualifications? Ask specifically
regarding training and experience in the procedure(s) in which you are
interested. Do not settle for "lapel-pin" board qualifications
in "Cosmetic", "Plastic", or "Facial Plastic"
Surgery. No single board can assure that your surgeon is best qualified
to perform a given procedure. Questions therefore directed at training
(number of cases observed or assisted) and experience (number of cases
recently performed) are a much more critical assessment of an individual
surgeon's qualifications.
- Are there any alternatives?
- Length of procedure(s) you may be contemplating
- Realistic expectations
- Type of anesthesia
- Risks
- Costs
- Where will the surgery be performed?
- When will you be back to "normal" or able to go out into
the public?
- Find out as much as you can about the operation(s) you may
be contemplating
